From manuscript to a publication the world can find

University presses, learned societies and independent academic publishers produce excellent research, yet few have an in-house production team. Silsile takes the manuscript all the way to a typeset, DOI-registered and discoverable publication, and runs the OJS and OMP systems it is published on.

Good research, incomplete records

A book chapter is found through its metadata. Yet of the 24.9 million book chapters registered with Crossref, most records carry little more than a title, the authors and a date.

When abstracts, references and identifiers are missing, a chapter does not surface in discovery services, drops out of citation networks and cannot be credited to its authors and institutions.

Since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act has applied to e-books placed on the EU market. Accessible, well-structured digital editions are no longer a courtesy but a requirement.

A six-link chain

Each stage starts from the checked output of the one before, so errors are caught before they reach print or international records.

  1. 01Receiving the files

The author's Word file or the content in a publishing management system (OJS, OMP) is reviewed, and anything missing is reported at the outset.

  2. 02Working out the structure

Heading levels, abstracts, figure and table captions, footnotes and references are marked up one by one by our team.

    • references
  3. 03Typesetting and proofs

The book is set to the press's template, read page by page, and a proof PDF is sent to the author and editor.

  4. 04Multi-format output

Alongside the print PDF, HTML full text is prepared for each chapter, so the publication is found by its content in search engines and reads comfortably on a phone. EPUB3 and JATS/BITS XML on request.

  5. 05Persistent identifiers

Book and chapter DOIs are registered; author and institution names are linked to ORCID, ISNI and ROR identifiers, each one verified.

    • ORCID
    • ROR
    • ISNI
  6. 06Metadata distribution

Rich metadata goes to Crossref, book trade and library channels, open access libraries, preservation services and national systems.

Eleven areas, one team

A publication's reach depends on how accurately and consistently it is connected to a network of persistent identifiers, metadata standards, indexes, open access infrastructure and library catalogues.
